Attleboro - Virginia Agnes (Lee) Borden passed away on July 26, 2017 after a long illness. Gini was married to Harry “Stubby” Borden for 63 years until his passing in July 2014. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Bridget (Doohan) Lee.
Gini spent most of her life in the Attleboro area, growing up on Emory Street, later moving to 60 West Street, before relocating to 38 Wing’s Neck Road, Pocasset, MA. As the only daughter in the Lee family, she learned competition early to keep up with her brothers. Naturally left-handed, when she broke her arm, Gini learned to do everything right-handed, which sometimes confused those around her. Gini met Stubby, reportedly, when her older brother John was driving her to Emmanuel College in Boston and they picked up a hitch-hiker on the way. That worked out well for both of them. Gini graduated from Emmanuel, Stubby proposed, and she accepted, entering a marriage that would last over 60 years. After marriage, Gini and Stub lived in Norton, where she gave birth to their three children before moving back to Attleboro.
Gini devoted her life to her family and to teaching students in Attleboro, spending over 28 years teaching from second through sixth grades. Her legacy rests with all the students she touched and shaped through those many years. She was a lifelong member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society of Women Educators. While in Attleboro, Gini enjoyed singing with the Harmonettes during their heyday, travelling several times with the chorus to international competitions. As the kids grew up, Gini resumed playing golf at Highland Country Club in Attleboro and Pocasset Golf Club on Cape Cod and always enjoyed a good game of bridge.
Gini’s passing is a great loss to her family, friends, and those that she touched throughout her life. The family would like to thank the staff at the Life Care Nursing Home in Attleboro for their loving support to Gini during her last challenging years and also thank Tony and Roberta Bimbo whose neighborly friendship and support were invaluable during Gini’s last few years at the Cape.
Gini is survived by her three children, Lynne Borden and her husband Tom Lopes, Virginia B. Landrigan and her husband Kevin, and Gregory James Borden and his wife Mary, her granddaughter Brianna Ortiz-Lopes, and her great-grandchildren Kyli, Ary and Anthony.
She was pre-deceased by her four brothers: Bill, John, Ed, and Jim Lee of Attleboro.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday, July 30, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro.
