Mr. Richard O. Castro Sr. Obituary (2014)

Richard O. Castro, Sr., 85, a life-long resident of Attleboro, died Thursday at his home following a brief illness. He was the husband of Doris M. (Brochu) to whom he was married to for the past 62 years. Born in Attleboro he was the son of the late Manuel O. Castro, Sr., and Mary (Teixeira). Richard was educated in Attleboro schools and graduated from Attleboro High School in 1947. He was initially employed in textiles by Wolfenden & Sons, and then joined Attleboro Dyeing & Finishing Company (ADCO) in Seekonk where he was the Vice President. Years later Richard reconfigured the textiles plant and established R.O.C. Realty creating industrial space for small manufacturing businesses. He was an active communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Parish (formerly Holy Ghost Parish). He was a member of the Attleboro Knights of Columbus, and Treasurer of the St. Vincent de Paul Society where he was the recipient of their Top Hat award. He has been a member and past President of the Attleboro Lions Club, the Serra Club, and the Portuguese-American Club. Richard was a Marian Medal recipient in 2002. Richard was a lover of all sports in addition to his love of crossword and jigsaw puzzles. He was also an avid gardener. He most enjoyed his time spent with his family and grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by seven children: Richard O. Castro, Jr., Suzanne M. Castro, Theresa M. Lattari and her husband James, Marilyn I. Benoit and her husband Richard, William M. Castro, Joseph N. Castro and his husband Daniel Nelson, and Maria A. Wheeler and her husband Daniel, Jr.. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas O. Castro, a sister, Marjorie O. Castro, 10 grandchildren, any many nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by a son, Ronald O. Castro, and his brothers Raymond O. Castro Sr., and Manuel O. Castro, Jr. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, July 27th from 2-6PM at Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 71 Linden Street, Attleboro at 10AM on Monday. Interment will be at St Stephen’s Cemetery.
