Mr. Paul J. Brennan Obituary (1952

ATTLEBORO - Paul J. Brennan of Attleboro died on January 15th at the Golden Living Center in Plymouth after a courageous two year battle with lung cancer. He leaves an extended family and many friends whose frequent visits provided great comfort in his last difficult weeks. A son of the late Mayor Cyril K. Brennan and the late Dorothy (Cate) Brennan, he was born in Attleboro on June 11, 1952 and lived in the city for virtually his entire life. Paul grew up in Dodgeville and attended the former St. Joseph’s School, Peter Thacher Junior High School, and Attleboro High School. Always physically active, he played several sports as a youngster and, as an adult, accomplished such feats as cycling all the way to the Berkshires and walking the course of the Boston Marathon. Also active in scouting, he was once cited for the life-saving act of applying a tourniquet to the leg of a Dodgeville neighbor who had fallen and was bleeding badly. Paul was employed as an interior and exterior house painter in the Attleboro area for many years. Paul was an avid fan of Boston sports teams, particularly the Celtics, Red Sox, and Patriots. One of his fondest memories was of being at Fenway Park on October 1, 1967 where he witnessed a pennant-clinching Red Sox victory and took an exceptional action photo of Carl Yastrzemski that has drawn the praise of everyone who has ever seen it. Paul was always very interested in politics and history and well-read in both areas. He also often expressed his views in letters and poems published in the Sun-Chronicle. He leaves a sister, Martha Brennan Mutrie and her husband George of Kingston, Massachusetts, and three brothers, Jerome and his wife Elizabeth of Chicopee, Patrick and his wife Paula of Plymouth, and Terence and his wife Mary Jane of Plymouth. He also leaves several nieces and nephews, three grandnephews, and one grandniece. Paul was also the brother of the late Timothy J. Brennan, who died in 1978. A memorial visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 22rd, at the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro followed by memorial service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery on West Street, Attleboro.
