Marilyn Roberts

–

Attleboro, Massachusetts

Marilyn G. Roberts, adoringly nicknamed "Emma" by her loving husband, passed on Sunday, June 2nd, at Lifecare Center of Attleboro. She was 91 and is survived by her three children, Donna, Brad, and Wendy (all born at Sturdy), their spouses, eight grandchildren, and five great grandsons.

Marilyn was born at Sturdy Memorial Hospital to her parents, Fred and Rita Holman, of 8 George Street. Friendly and outgoing as a young girl, she enjoyed tap dancing, playing the drum in the school band, and taking her cat "Timmy" for rides in her bicycle basket. She eventually became a girl scout leader during which time they helped in the community by folding linens at the hospital during World War II. She fondly remembers trips to the hatmaker in Boston, with her mother for special occasions.

Marilyn and her high school sweetheart, Leslie L. Roberts, (also born at Sturdy), were married in 1953. They began raising their family on Tappan Avenue, and later moved to Seekonk, Mass. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She also worked in a flower shop in North Attleboro. Marilyn became the Seekonk Area Chairman for the Sturdy Memorial Hospital Aid Association, Raising funds for medical equipment. She was very fond of the outdoors, spending summers in Chatham, Mass., never missing a strawberry-picking season with her children, and serving as President of the Seekonk Garden Club. She accepted an award for their work toward conserving a wildlife area in Seekonk. She was artistically talented as well, painting on canvas, metal trays, keepsake boxes, and handmade greeting cards.

Marilyn and her husband eventually returned to Attleboro, living at Woods Edge Condos. After her husband's passing in 2013, she found comfort in tending her garden, enjoying the company of her neighbors, and spending time with her children and their families. She loved hosting her annual Christmas party, and going to Morin's Diner almost daily. (Her first trip to Morin's was at age 2).

Marilyn will be forever loved. She engaged in her community with vibrance, enthusiasm, and generosity. Her kind, loving and humorous spirit will stay present in all of us.

There will be a private family service. Donations can be made, in Marilyn's name, to Smile Train.
