Linda A. Hinds

–

Seekonk, Massachusetts

On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2023, Linda A. Hinds (Edson) passed away at her home at 759 Arcade Ave, Seekonk MA. Linda had recently been released from Charlton Hospital to hospice care from chemo treatment after battling cancer since 2015. She was only recently predeceased by her husband Arthur C. Hinds, who died February 12, 2023. Linda was born on March 1, 1953 at St. Johns Hospital in Lowell, MA, to parents Bert C. Edson and Louise B. Edson. She was one of six children: Dale, Judy, Ronnie, Gery and Debbie. Her parents and siblings Dale, Debbie and Judy predeceased her.

Linda had two children: Cherie Clapp and Martin Clapp, Jr. She was also very close to her granddaughter, Tonya Rehill, and grandson, Brandon Fernandes. She is survived by her two brothers: Ronald Edson of Seekonk, MA, niece Melissa Edson, nephew Ronald Edson Jr, brother Gery Edson of Boise, Idaho, and nieces, Cali Eby and Olivia Edson and nephews Christopher and Aaron Kinzie from sister Judy Kinzie as well as Judy’s surviving husband Ernest A. Kinzie. She had numerous friends and neighbors who made up a close knit second family including her numerous care givers at various health care facilities over the past seven years.

Linda was raised in Attleboro, MA and graduated from AHS in 1972. Shortly after, she married and had two children. She worked at Texas Instruments for many years and worked part-time at Arthur’s print shop, Ace Printing. Her final employment was with Sysco Foods before being forced into retirement with a shoulder injury.

In her early childhood years, her family lived part-time and most vacations at her grandfather Fred Eastman’s farm in Stow, ME. While not realizing grandpa’s teasing was evidence of his clear preference for her as his favorite grandchild, she felt he was tormenting her by having his steers chase her. A favorite memory of those early days was walking two miles to a neighboring farm to ride summer camp horses. Being too afraid to ask her mother for permission, the siblings sent their youngest sister, Debbie, and the favorite golden child, to ask permission. When they returned home with three horses an hour later, their mother confirmed she had never been asked and never consented. Linda and Gery got a bare butt spanking but while waiting for their punishment, they both began crying. After looking at each other, they couldn’t help but start laughing, which made the spanking last much longer. They had many fun memories of their early days. Linda was especially close to their father and sister, Judy. In later years, Linda cared for all her siblings and parents. She had a heart of gold and the most generous spirit.

Later in life, Linda began a relationship with a family friend, Arthur Hinds. They worked to remodel his house on Arcade Avenue and made regular trips to local parks and the shore, where they loved scallops, fried clams and lobster. They married on July 31, 2009 at the Old Grist Mill in Seekonk.

We will all miss and remember the good times and indomitable spirit Linda showed over the years battling cancer. She was the most loving and generous person we’ve ever known and we are proud and privileged to have had Linda as a sister. We love you, Lin, and know you and Artie are resting together and happy.
