John R. Levis

–

Attleboro, Massachusetts

John R. Levis, 84, of Attleboro, MA passed peacefully away on the morning of April 13th in the deep, loving presence of those he held most dear, his wife of 60 years, Carol, and his children, Michael, Jack and Julie. During John’s final weeks at Brookdale, he was prayed for and comforted by a multitude of family members and friends whom he touched on his life’s journey.

Born in Attleboro on February 25, 1942, he was the fifth of sixth children to the late Joseph and Margaret (Johnson) Levis. A graduate of Coyle Cassidy High School and Boston College, John was gifted with a powerful and resonant bass voice, which he joyfully shared as a member of the Boston College Chorale throughout his college years.

Upon graduation from BC, John served one year in Vietnam as Captain in the Air Force where he received The Bronze Star and Air Force Commendation Medal. For the next 45 years, he enjoyed a successful career in the jewelry industry with various companies.

A lifelong resident of Attleboro, John found a second home at Attleboro YMCA , playing squash and creating lasting friendships. He was a lifelong member of St. John The Evangelist Church and its remarkable choir.

John was an ordinary man with extraordinary gifts. When he sponsored a Vietnamese family he showed his compassion. When he took a reformed prisoner under his wing and in his home and gave him a second chance at life he exemplified forgiveness. Generous of spirit, and full of life, John was a man who went out into the world and lived his Christian values. His life is a culmination in all that he believed, and the practices passed along to all are expressions of how he lived. His most enduring impact was the deep relationships he formed with family and friends throughout his life. He was the life of the party, lighting up the room with his bright presence and heartly laugh. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

John leaves behind his loving wife, Carol Levis of Attleboro; his beloved children, Michael Levis and his wife Beth of Madison, CT, Jack Levis and his wife Maura of Attleboro and Julie Wichern and her husband Mark of Newport; his cherished grandchildren, Will, Kelley, Jillian, Claire, Hannah , Jackson, Tommy, Briana, Caroline, Charlie, Danny and Ann Catherine; he is also survived by his sister, Marie Croteau of North Attleboro and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his four siblings, Joseph M Levis Jr., Ann Pellegrino, Thomas Levis and Philip Levis.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 4 - 7 pm on Friday, April 17, 2026 at Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro, MA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main Street, Attleboro, MA. Burial will take place at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
