Mr. John J. Fernandes Obituary (1942

ATTLEBORO – John J. Fernandes, 76, of Attleboro passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018 in the Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI. He was the loving husband of the late Linda (Smyk) Fernandes. Born on January 31, 1942 in Attleboro, he was a son of the late John and Florence (Vieira) Fernandes. John was a lifelong resident of Attleboro and was a graduate of Coyle High School (now Coyle and Cassidy) in Taunton. In 1977 John and his brother Tom established a 35 year business partnership together which eventually lead to becoming co/owners of the Dodgeville Country Store. In his younger years, John enjoyed drag racing and was a co/founder of the Shifters Drag Club. He was an avid NHRA and NASCAR fan and was a season ticket holder for the New England Patriots. Later in life he took up golfing. John was a long time member of Attleboro Elks Lodge No. 1014. John is survived by his daughter, Lisa Ivory of Attleboro and her companion George Bermudez; his son John J. Fernandes of Attleboro; his longtime companion, Michele Flint of Attleboro; his son-in-law, Robert W. Ivory Jr. of North Attleboro; his grandchildren, Zachary J. and Noah J. Ivory both of Attleboro and Ryan J. Fernandes of East Providence; his siblings, Mary Fernandes of Maine, Paul Fernandes of Attleboro, Tom Fernandes of South Carolina, Judy Collito of Attleboro and Stephen Fernandes of Attleboro; a sister-in-law, Mary Cull of Attleboro; uncle of Heather Leary of Somerset and the late Melissa Cull and Megan Cull and also many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 4 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro. A funeral will be conducted on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 9 a.m. from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Parish, 71 Linden Street, Attleboro. Burial will take place at a later date.
