Joan Marcoccio Obituary (1939 - 2022) - Attleboro, Massachusetts

Afterglow I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one, I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave when life is done. Joan (Joni) Frances Knowles Marcoccio, born January 31, 1939, in Attleboro, MA, passed away on June 9, 2022, at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence, RI. Daughter of the late George F. Knowles and Vera L. (Hatch) Knowles, and the widow of loving husband of thirty-five years before his passing, William (Bill) M. Marcoccio. Loving sister of Beverly A. Knowles Pascal. Mother of Michael Knowles Marcoccio, mother-in-law to Wing Lau Marcoccio and grandmother to Lucas William Marcoccio. Aunt and Godmother of the late Richard A. Pascal of Attleboro, MA, Robin A. Pascal of Attleboro, MA, Susan E. Pascal of Greer, SC and beloved aunt of numerous other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, friends and former students. Joni was raised in South Attleboro and a 1957 graduate of Attleboro High School, where she was a cheerleader, a member of the national honor society and co-editor of the yearbook. She received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1961. She lived in Switzerland for nine months where she studied French. Joni took graduate courses at Bridgewater State University and Providence College. She worked for nine years at the Clara Barton Camp for Diabetic Girls. She was a teacher for the town of North Attleboro for thirty-six years at John Woodcock School and her beloved Joseph Martin School. Joni was active in Rainbow Girls, Eastern Star, Chi Omega Sorority, Sigma Phi Gamma International Sorority, Attleboro Chapter, Little Theater, Pawtucket Players, and Barker Playhouse. She and her family summered in Dennisport, MA for twenty years and wintered in Port Charlotte, Florida. Joni was always ready for fun and lit up the room with her bright smile, sparkling outfit and energetic personality. A creative and positive force who danced and cheered her way through life, smiling and supporting friends and family. In Joni’s words, “I loved in abundance all my friends and family. Life was so full and precious; I never met a person I could not love. Thanks for the reciprocation. Yesterday was wonderful, today was great, tomorrow will be even better, Sempre.” Services are private.
