Mr. Douglas W. Johnson Obituary (1950

TUFTONBOROUGH, N.H. - Douglas W. Johnson, 63, of Weston, Mass. and Tuftonborough, N.H., formerly of Attleboro, passed away Monday, May 19, 2014 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, Newton. Born Oct. 3, 1950 in Attleboro, he was the third child of the late Warren A. and Marion (Quaglia) Johnson. He was educated in Attleboro and a graduate of Attleboro High School, Class of 1968. He then attended Staunton Military Academy in Staunton, Va. before attending the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Stockbridge School of Agriculture. There he received an associate's degree in 1972. He was also a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. He left UMass to be an assistant superintendent at Westchester Country Club in Rye, N.Y. From there, he took the head superintendent position at Framingham Country Club. In 1980, he was offered the head superintendent position at Pine Brook Country Club in Weston. In 1988, he founded Johnson Golf Management, Inc. which operates multiple golf courses in Massachusetts. At the age of 10, he began his love of golf at Norton Country Club where he was known to play every day, sometimes 36 holes per day. He participated and won many junior golf tournaments. At 16 years old, he was the first lefty to win the Massachusetts State Junior Golf title. He was also a successful pitcher, football player and basketball player through high school. It was in Weston that he raised his three children. He was a member of the Weston Boosters and founded St. Julia's Parish CYO basketball program. He loved coaching and watching every sport his children participated in. He was very proud of building his own home in Tuftonborough, N.H. where he enjoyed relaxing and taking his dogs on long walks. While he remained active in the golf management business, he enjoyed spending the winters in Florida, going to music concerts and Patriots games, and playing poker tournaments at Foxwoods. He loved watching his grandsons play soccer and baseball. He was proud of his involvement with a Memorial Golf Tournament for his friend, the late Gary DiNardo, and his contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project. He is survived by his son Brendan Johnson of Chicago; two daughters, Kelly (Johnson) and her husband Jason Laramee of Mattapoisett, and Mara (Johnson) and her husband Lt. Edward Macie of Oak Harbor, Wash., and their mother, Cheryl (Johnson) McCarren; six grandchildren: Ryan Laramee, Ryan Macie, Tate Laramee, Derek Laramee, Samara Macie, and Kevin Laramee; his loving companion, Brandee Viens and her son Nickolas Andrade; four siblings: Janice Johnson of Attleboro, Maureen Russello of Bradenton, Fla., Warren Johnson Jr. of Key West, Fla., and Jeffrey Johnson of Sarasota, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved dogs Boo Boo and Buster. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, May 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, May 24 at 10 a.m. in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home. Private burial will take place at a later date.
