Berta Pequeneza

ATTLEBORO – Berta Maria (Araujo) Pequeneza, 90, of Attleboro passed away due to COVID on Friday, January 21, 2022 at the Blue Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late João Gomes Pequeneza.

Born on March 17, 1931 in Candelaria, São Miguel (Azores) she was a daughter of the late João José Araujo and Senhorinha dos Anjos (Pereira) Araujo.

Berta was raised in Candelaria and then lived in Brazil for 16 years before moving to Attleboro in 1970. She moved back to Madeira, Portugal in 2002 returning back to Attleboro in 2018 to be with her family.

She proudly worked for Texas Instruments for 24 years.

She was a longtime communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Attleboro. Berta loved to attend Mass to pray for others and would go as often as she could. She would watch Mass on TV on days she could not attend in person. Berta loved to cook and especially bake cakes and desserts for family and friends. She enjoyed working on puzzles with her iPad and most of all spending time with her family.

Berta is survived by her two sons, Gabriel and his wife Dawn Pequeneza of Attleboro and Paul Pequeneza of North Attleboro; her grandchildren, Matthew and Morgan Pequeneza both of Attleboro and Ava and Sophie Pequeneza both of Rehoboth; also, many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late João Araujo, Maria de Lourdes Amaral, Senhorinha A. Araujo and Maria Isabel Rego.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 9 – 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 N. Main Street, Attleboro.

Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, West Street, Attleboro.
