Mr. Alvaro J. Oliveira Obituary (1929

ATTLEBORO – Alvaro J. Oliveira, 84 of Attleboro formerly of North Falmouth passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Norma (Motta) Oliveira of Attleboro. Born in Somerville, MA on September 7, 1929, he was a son of the late Alvaro and Mary (Braga) Oliveira. Alvaro was raised and educated in Newport, RI and was a graduate of Rogers High School. After high school he enlisted in the Unites States Air Force and served during the Korean War. He and his wife resided in Attleboro for more than 30 years before moving to North Falmouth for 28 years. They recently moved back to Attleboro to be closer to family and friends. Alvaro was employed as a tool maker for Craft Inc. in Attleboro for many years. He also owned and operated the Norking Co. in Attleboro for over 20 years. Alvaro was a longtime communicant of both St. John the Evangelist Church in Attleboro and St. Elizabeth Seton Church in North Falmouth, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and altar server. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Men’s Club, Knights of Columbus Council #404 and the Serra Club. Alvaro was also a recipient of the Marian Medal, which recognizes members of diocesan parishes for their dedicated service to the Church. He enjoyed perfecting his lawn and wood working. In addition to his wife, Alvaro is survived by his devoted children, Paul Oliveira and his wife Sharon of Rehoboth, Gary Oliveira of Livermore, CA, Jane Oliveira of Coral Gables, FL and Ruth Baker and her husband Peter of Attleboro; his cherished grandchildren, Kate and her husband Martin Pyne, Steven Oliveira, Elyse and her husband Eric Traghella, Dawnrae and her husband Aaron Brothers, Jacob Oliveira, Kevin, Bryan and Sean McCaffrey and Kevin and Olivia Baker; his adored great grandson, Jack Pyne; his siblings, Charles, Antone, George, Gloria & Mimi Oliveira; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Richard Oliveira. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday, July 6, from 4-8 p.m. in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro, MA. A funeral will be conducted on Monday, July 7, at 10 a.m. from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at 11 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main St., Attleboro, MA. Burial with military honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers donations in Alvaro’s name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O.
