NORTH ATTLEBORO - Robert M. Moore Sr., 85, died Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Wingate at Sharon, surrounded by his four loving children. He was born at Sturdy Hospital in Attleboro, MA on September 12, 1931, and lived most of his life in Attleboro and, since 1982, North Attleboro.
Bob graduated from Attleboro High School in 1949, was voted “Most Popular”, “Best All-Around”, Wittiest”, “Peppiest” and yes – “Class Clown” – by his classmates, and earned varsity letters in three sports – football, wrestling, and baseball. After high school, Bob joined the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, making 29 jumps from 1951- 1954. He attended Bryant College, graduating in 1959 with a B.S. degree in Business Administration, and began a 20-year career as a claims adjuster in the insurance industry, working throughout southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He later became well known by many as a menswear salesman at London’s Department Store in Attleboro, and later while employed part-time by Raschel’s, Inc., a children’s clothing store located in Foxboro. He was a lifetime member of the Attleboro Elks Lodge #1014, joining in 1957, and in retirement he volunteered at Sturdy Memorial Hospital.
With Bob, life’s glass wasn’t merely half full; it was overflowing. He treasured the close neighborhood gang from Harvard St., and the get-togethers with former Attleboro High teammates Howie O’Hare, Carl Weeman, Bill Marcuccio, Gordon Stone, Dick Ostrander and others. “Gramp” was certainly a character, and will be missed by everyone – young and old – who he crossed paths with. He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence M. and Hattie (Wallenthin) Moore, and his wife, Beverly (Grandmaison) Moore, who he was married to for 43 years before her death in 1998. He is survived by his four children: daughter Connie Goulet and her husband Steve of Mashpee, MA; son Bob Jr. and his wife Susan of South China, ME; son Tom and his wife Cindy of Pawcatuck, CT.; and daughter Betsy Masciarelli and her husband Mike of Lunenburg, MA; eleven grandchildren: Jason and Ryan Moore; Shawn and Lindsay Goulet; Kaitlyn, Jenna and Jeff Moore; Gabby and Molly Masciarelli; and Andrea and Dan Tyler; and four great-granddaughters: Margaret and Caroline Moore; and Chloe and Riley Tyler.
His family would like to thank the staff at Wingate at Sharon for their tremendous care and companionship over the last year, who Bob shared many laughs with; and Seasons Hospice of Sharon for providing emotional and spiritual support.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday, September 18, from 4-7 p.m. at Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro.
