Mrs. Maria "Theresa" Soares Obituary (1923

ATTLEBORO – Maria “Theresa” C. Soares, 93, of Attleboro passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016 in the Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro. She was the wife of the late Joseph Soares. Born on August 16, 1923 in St. Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Jose P. and Senhorinha (Avelar) Pereira. Maria grew up in the Azores before moving to the United States in 1950. In 1958, she purchased her first house in Attleboro and resided there until her passing. Maria was employed by Automatic Machine Products Co. for over 30 years before her retirement. She was a longtime communicant of the former Holy Ghost Church now the St. Vincent de Paul Church in Attleboro. She was a volunteer for the prayer group and for the Feast of the Holy Ghost for many years at her church. Maria enjoyed gardening, sewing and needlework and especially helping people out and spending time with her family. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Berta Leite of Portugal, Gorretti Boulay of Attleboro, Mario de Amaral of Canada, Laurinda Rebelo of Attleboro, Joe Pereira of Attleboro, Paul Pereira of Attleboro, Mary Angel Aguiar of Attleboro, Mary Jo Pugh of Attleboro and Mary Rose Murphy of Attleboro, her great-nephew, Mark Rebelo, her great-niece, Michelle Ricard and three Great-great nephews. She was the sister of the late Jose P. Pereira, Natalia Leite and Almerinda de Amaral. She was also the aunt of the late Fernando and Alberto Leite. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, October 10th from 4-6 p.m. in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street Attleboro. A funeral will be conducted on Tuesday, October 11th at 9 a.m. from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Parish, 71 Linden Street, Attleboro. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Attleboro.
