Mr. Joseph F. Miconi Jr.
January 20, 2022
NORTH ATTLEBORO - Joseph F. Miconi Jr., 79, was sent off peacefully on Jan. 20th, 2022, surrounded by the love and support of his five children. Known to many as the “music man”, Joe and his business, Miconi Music, established in 1962, were staples in N. Attleboro. Whether fostering a love of music by handing out complimentary kazoos to visiting children, helping struggling artists, employing local teenagers and musicians or entertaining others himself, Joe’s love of music was evident to all who knew him. Always fostering an appreciation of music in his children and grandchildren, he encouraged all to take up an instrument, sing or perform, happily providing equipment, music sheets or lessons to help them awaken their musical potential. Although proudly “old school” and not finding much use for technology, Joe and Miconi Music had thousands of “followers” near and far, touching many lives over the last 60 years. Joe also had a passion for classic cars and hot rods, and still enjoyed riding his motorcycle every summer. Joe could most often be found behind the counter, stringing a guitar or setting up a new drum set in the window of Miconi Music, dedicating his life to his customers and “fans”. Contemplating retirement for many years, but never being able to leave the occupation he loved so much, Joe worked tirelessly, never missing a day, loving every encounter. In his time away from the store, you might find him at one of his beloved local establishments, chatting with friends or other patrons, sharing stories and maybe a drink or two. He was soft-spoken and kind, never hurried and always had time to socialize or offer a helping hand to family, friends, customers, bandmates, and strangers. Joe was a 1956 graduate of St. Mary-Sacred Heart School and North Attleboro High School, Class of 1960. He attended Berkley School of Music before opening his store at age 20. He then led his first band The Ravens, and never looked back. He was a life-long member of Transfiguration of the Lord Parish at St. Mary Church in N. Attleboro and a proud supporter of the La Salette Shrine, providing musical equipment to the chapel and facility for many years. Joe was the devoted son to the late Joseph F. Miconi Sr. and Lena Geromini Miconi. He leaves behind a wife, Janet Dawes Miconi of CT.; five children, Lisa Miconi of N. Attleboro, Joseph D. Miconi of N. Attleboro, Kerri Miconi Payne of Barrington, RI, Mark Miconi of N. Attleboro, and Ashley Miconi of N. Attleboro as well as two sisters, Maureen Miconi-Ross of N. Attleboro and Cheryl Miconi Darwell of West End, NC. He was the funny and loving grandfather to 11 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Transfiguration of the Lord Parish at St. Mary Church, 14 Park St. in N. Attleboro on Thursday, January 27th at 10 am. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Towne St., N. Attleboro. Visitation respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s memory may be made to the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette, 947 Park St. Attleboro, MA 02703 or directly at https://lasaletteattleboroshrine.org/give
