    Mrs. Edith Ann (DeSantis) Burks

    November 29, 1926 - February 13, 2021

BURKS, Edith A. of Attleboro, formerly from Lauderdale by the Sea, FL and Norwood, MA passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at the age of 94. She was the beloved wife of the late Vivan Burks (Bill) and devoted mother of Nancy McHugh and her husband James, Susan Lee and her husband Rob both of Attleboro and the late Thomas Baker. Edie was the cherished grandmother to 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; Corinne Desrosiers, Jenna Baker, Adam Baker, Ryan Lee, Paige Lee and Katie Lee, Everleigh and David Lindstrom, Ethan, Ella and Maverick Desrosiers and Jack Baker. Born in Boston, the daughter of the late Guiseppe and Savina DeSantis, Edie grew up in Medford and graduated from Medford HS in 1944. She married the late George F. Baker and traveled the country living in over 20 places with his career in the Navy. Upon his death, she returned to Massachusetts to be close to family. Edie lived in Norwood for over two decades and volunteered at Norwood Hospital and enjoyed performing in the Hospital Auxiliary Shows for years. Edie loved to entertain, cook wonderful meals and spend time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite place was her home in Lauderdale by the Sea, FL where she wintered for over 30 years and where many family and friends gathered to enjoy the beach, one she called the greatest place on earth! A true entertainer, she would often be asked to join the band and sing at weddings, reunions, parties, restaurants and in recent years at the assisted living where she lived and spent her final days. Our deep appreciation goes to the staff at The Branches of North Attleboro for their exceptional care and love. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edith’s name to Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter, Http://faaspets.org/ways-to-help/donate/ Services are private.
