Mrs. Claire "Chickie" Vasterling Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

CUMBERLAND, RI - Claire "Chickie" Vasterling, 82, of Cumberland, RI, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the Mount St. Rita Health Center in Cumberland, RI. She was former wife of the late Lloyd C. “Stretch” Vasterling Sr. Born on October 23, 1934, in Boston, she was the devoted daughter of the late Clarence J. and Mary Lillian (Curran) Brown. Claire grew up in Jamaica Plain and graduated with the Class of 1951 from Jamaica Plain High School. Claire held various positions of employment throughout her life. She worked as a switchboard operator for New England Bell, as a bookkeeper for Guyot Brothers, she worked at Morin’s Catering for many years and she also worked for Rand Materials, until her retirement in 1996. Claire had many hobbies and interests; she loved to travel, spend summers in Cape Cod, and shopping. She was most happy when she was in the company of her devoted family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her loving children, David L. Vasterling, Holly (Vasterling) Avakian and her husband Robert, and Lloyd C. “Skip” Vasterling Jr., all of Attleboro; her grandchildren, Nicole Claire Avakian of Shelburne Falls, Quanita Moore of Attleboro, Audra Marie Vasterling of Pawtucket and Victoria Lynn Vasterling of Rehoboth; her great-grandson, Zander Thurber of Pawtucket; also many cherished friends and extended family. In addition to her former husband and parents, she is predeceased by her late sister, Dorothy Foskett. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at the funeral home at 7:30 pm. A private burial will take place at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
