Mr. Billy McElhanon I Obituary (1944

PLAINVILLE - Billy Mac McElhanon the 1st, 73 years old of Plainville MA passed away surrounded by family early Monday morning at the Philip Hulitar Hope Hospice Center in Providence RI on May 8, 2017. Billy Mac born on December 5, 1944 and raised in Spring Hill LA with his late mother Evelyn Henry and Late father Marshall Van Buren McElhanon. Billy Mac would boast about what a wonderful childhood he had in Louisiana with many close cousins, Aunts and Uncles as well as his Granny and Pa. Billy Mac was a Second Class Petty Officer in the US Navy and served proudly for 10 years. Billy was a boiler tender on two ships, a light cruiser “ USS Topeka” and a Destroyer “USS Boyd”. He served two tours in Vietnam and was honorably discharged. During Billy’s time in the service he married his first wife Margaret Twitty of Louisiana with whom he had two beautiful children, twins, Billy Mac McElhanon II and Deva LaVonne McElhanon. After their separation Billy Mac eventually settled in Boston Ma where he met his lifelong wife Maureen A. Higgins McElhanon of almost 48 years this June. Billy Mac made a name for himself by selling cars, driving Trucks and working in the Quincy Shipyard. Billy enjoyed playing the guitar and singing especially with his close friend Timmy Klemchuk. He loved Hank Williams country music and old fashioned Bluegrass music. Billy Mac had a passion for Cars and of course Ships and boats and the Ocean. He was a member of the DAV Chapter 1, Officer of the Day and was an active member of All Saints Anglican Church until his recent decline in health. Billy Mac was known up here in Plainville MA for his thick southern accent and his witty yet ridiculous sayings and phrases. Billy Mac was a horrible jokester, but could definitely make you laugh at things he didn’t even know were funny (that's also what made it so funny). Billy Mac was an only child but in 1966 he met his lifelong Best Friend and Brother Charles M. Chircop of Detroit Michigan who also settled in Boston Ma and who, one year later, after Billy’s marriage to Maureen; married Billy’s wife's twin sister Margaret Chircop. Billy and Maureen; Chuck and Margie together made one small but loving family. Billy Mac had a beautiful soul and a huge heart. He was generous, compassionate, loving, kind, caring, gentle and genuine. Billy Mac will be missed and the world will never be the same without him. He is survived by his wife Maureen A. Higgins McElhanon, His Son Billy Mac McElhanon II and daughter-in-law Shahira McElhanon, his daughter Deva LaVonne Collazos and son-in-law CSM Mark Collazos, and daughters Amanda Lee McElhanon and Jennifer A. McElhanon Lanteigne, and his Grandchildren Tony, Spencer, Lilah, Norah, Simon, Marietta and Troy. RIP Billy Mac and know how much you are loved. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, May 15, 2017 from 5 - 7 pm in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro, MA immediately followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will take place on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA at 12:45 p.m.
